Amazon warns of scams, “Trust Amazon-owned channels”, Amazon commits scam using Amazon-owned channels
We bought 2 Amazon Fire Sticks years ago. One of them has worked well enough until recently.
On July 24 I received an email from Amazon.com:
“Watch out for recent scam tactics”
“Here are some important tips to identify scams and keep your account and information safe:
1. Trust Amazon-owned channels.
Always go through theAmazonmobile app or website when seeking customer service, tech support, or when looking to make changes to your account.”
I determined that the Fire Stick that had worked had failed. Was this a technology failure? Was Amazon aware?
I needed to replace it.
On July 26, 2023 I received the following email from Amazon.com:
“Upgrade and save big
Ready to lose the lag? This week only, get $35 off the Fire TV Stick 4K. Use code 4KGOBIG at checkout. Offer expires 7/31/2023.”
It was an attractive offer and rightfully so since their products had failed.
I tried ordering using the code and it failed.
I spoke with customer service, The lady was not aware of the email but asked me to forward a copy to be presented to some internal meeting.
The next day I received an email from customer service:
“It was wonderful that we were able to have everything resolved.”
I responded back that it was not resolved.
I ordered a Fire Stick for more than the promised $ 14.99.
I checked the offer daily and finally on July 30, 2033 it worked so I ordered the second one.
Amazon violated 2 of my principles:
Don’t lie to me.
Don’t waste my time.
I called Amazon customer service on July 31, 2023 to voice my concerns.
